Christian teachings tell us that Jesus and the disciples spoke in parables rather than everyday language. What would this have achieved?

Jesus: ‘Your teachings tell that we spoke in parables for the benefit of local people. However, my audiences were always ordinary people who were focused on everyday life. They were not philosophical or into the deep and meaningful. So, why would we preach using stories with subtle, almost hidden meanings? These would have required some intellect to understand and they would have been counter-productive. We certainly used stories to illustrate and reinforce our points always around love thy neighbour.

‘But the other question is, would any of us have had the intellect to come up with these sophisticated parables in the first place?’
